Recaredo endorses Club Matador Manifesto championing wines from exceptional vineyards
Recaredo endorses the Club Matador Manifesto, which champions the quality, authenticity and distinctiveness of wines made with grapes from exceptional vineyards. The Manifesto, made public at the beginning of this year, calls on protected designation of origin (PDO) regulatory boards to address the needs of estate wines and sparkling wines and work to enhance their prestige.
The Manifesto was also advanced by oenologist Telmo Rodríguez and soon received the backing of over 250 authoritative voices in the world of wine, including distributors Quim Vila and Joan Valencia, Master of Wine Pedro Ballesteros, and winegrowers Juan Carlos López de Lacalle, Dominik A. Hubert, Abel Mendoza, Peter Sissek, Irene Alemany, Sal·lustià Álvarez, Josep Maria Pujol-Busquets and Ricard Rofes, among others.
The document concludes that “all the world’s great wines reflect the vineyards they come from,” and the signatories assert that “we have the history, the places and the passion needed to be effective advocates for the best properties and most exceptional places.” Recaredo fully supports the core message articulated in the Club Matador Manifesto, which also calls on protected designation of origin regulatory boards to be “sensitive to the new reality emerging in the Spanish wine sector and help highlight the differentiation within each of the country’s designations of origin, because we all know exceptional wines arise from these differences, and because the terroir wine movement is unstoppable.”
