Enoteca 1999 Turó d’en Mota

23 years and 5 months of ageing · Brut Nature

The Enoteca 1999 de Turó d’en Mota de Recaredo is yet another step – one of many taken since 1924 – in the process of defining Recaredo. It succeeds in preserving an absolutely distinctive identity, shaped by vocation, effort and patient passion.

100% Xarel·lo  | Single-vineyard | Numbered edition of 150 bottles

The Enoteca Turó d’en Mota de Recaredo is the result of a fierce non-conformism, but also of the ingenuous spirit and romanticism that lead us to embark on an emotional quest to capture this land of lime and its old Xarel·lo vines.

A true natural heritage feature. Planted in 1940, the Turó d’en Mota vineyard is located in the municipality of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia (Barcelona), on the slopes of the hill from which it takes its name, which is crowned by a lush Mediterranean forest of pines and shrubs. Its soils contains an abundance of calcareous nodules.

25 years on from the first vintage of this iconic wine, we continue to explore the boundaries of Xarel·lo through the compelling lens of long-aged sparkling wines. In this case, the bottles spent over 23 years in the ‘caves’, before being manually disgorged at the cool, natural temperature of our cellars.

The Enoteca 1999 de Turó d'en Mota de Recaredo is the result of the combined efforts of fathers and sons, oenologists and disgorgers, pruners and grape pickers, but above all of
our deep belief in the limitless potential of this land of Xarel·los that we admire so much.

1999, Turó d’en Mota de Recaredo was born, the first single-variety Xarel·lo sparkling wine ever and a bold champion for single-plot quality sparkling wines made in the heart of the
Penedès region.

The history of Turó d’en Mota de Recaredo is that of an old forgotten vineyard, which inspired us –at the end of the 90s and following our instinct– to recover it and value the natural heritage it represents.

When we glimpse Turó d’en Mota, we sense that it’s much more than just a vineyard. What stands before us is a cluster of vine stocks, or rather living beings that have stoically borne witness to the passing of one season after another since 1940. To uproot one of them would be to uproot ourselves.

Reserva Particular 2013

Brut Nature Long Ageing

In 1962 Josep Mata Capellades, in close collaboration with his sons Josep and Antoni, created the Reserva Particular de Recaredo with the original idea of conveying the delicateness and the subtle complexity of a long-aged sparkling wine without sacrificing freshness and the most authentic expression of time.

Reserva Particular de Recaredo represents the Mediterranean in its purest form, interprets the calcareous lands of the easternmost part of the Penedès region and shows the profound character of our oldest Xarel·lo and Macabeu vines.

Mineral and complex, full of inner life with long-lasting flavour. Completely dry brut nature sparkling wine with no added sugar. Limited edition 2.899 bottles.

Recaredo, family of winegrowers. Reserva Particular de Recaredo is made with the Mediterranean varieties Xarel·lo and Macabeu from old vineyards planted between 1950 and 1955 in the sloping banks of the Corpinnat territory.

Certified organic and biodynamic farming.

Hand-harvested grapes to maintain the properties of the fruits used for a long-aged sparkling wine.

Vinified, made and aged entirely in Recaredo.

Secondary fermentation with organic must, a leading commitment that brings us closer to the philosophy of making terroir wines linked to the most sincere identity of our wine region.

Long-aged with natural cork stopper, a sustainable, recyclable and ideal material for retaining the original character of a long-aged sparkling wine.

Manual disgorging without freezing, a technique based on skilled craftsmanship and respect for the environment.

A dry autumn is followed by abundant rainfall in the spring. Despite the rains, out of respect for the natural growth cycle, we opt not to trim the tips of the vines. The summer brings surprising weather, with below normal temperatures that delay the growth cycle. When we reach the end of August, the must weight and acid level are balanced and optimal.

In order to guarantee the maximum expressiveness and quality of the wine, we work with low yields in the vineyard. In the case of 2013 vintage, the average yield of Recaredo vines was 38,1 hl/ha.

Single-estate character. Grapes harvested from Recaredo’s Serral del Vell Estate, which stands on a small plateau (serral) carved out of the Bitlles Valley Highlands on a mainly calcareous terrain.

Biodynamic viticulture, a step beyond organic farming. We let plant cover grow spontaneously between the vines. This cover plays a crucial role in loosening the soil, regulating water retention and drainage, and helping to foster biodiversity. Infusions of plants are applied to the vines to control the presence of fungus in the vineyard and strengthen the vine's defences.

Hand-harvested grapes. Harvesting is done completely by hand to maintain the properties of the grapes used for a long-aged wine.

In-house vinification. Vinification, winemaking and ageing are carried out entirely in Recaredo.

Secondary fermentation with organic must, a leading commitment that brings us closer to the philosophy of making terroir wines linked to the most sincere identity of our wine region.

Manual disgorging without freezing. Disgorging (the uncorking process) is done by hand without freezing the neck of the bottle, a technique based on skilled craftsmanship and respect for the environment.

A capriciously dry summer with remarkable heat waves lends character to a vintage blessed by spring and autumn rains. Nature shows its harshest face in early June. The health of the grapes is outstanding and allows us to obtain musts of great purity and definition.

In order to guarantee the maximum expressiveness and quality of the wine, we work with low yields in the vineyard. In the case of the 2016 vintage, the average yield of Recaredo vines was 26.5 hl/ha.

After a number of vintages marked by drought, we no longer find ourselves looking skywards yearning for rain. The rains, especially those that fall in spring, make the viticulture tasks we perform an exciting challenge. The land demands rigorous and methodical work to prevent problems with fungal diseases, such as downy mildew. We finish the harvest satisfied with the decisions we’ve made and with grapes that are of great purity and in very good health.

In order to guarantee the maximum expressiveness and quality of the wine, we work with low yields in the vineyard. In the case of 2018 vintage, the average yield of Recaredo vines was 43.4 hl/ha.

A vintage of contrasts with spring rains that allow the plant to grow with exceptional vigor, but the arrival of summer is accompanied by occasional heat waves with record temperatures. Fortunately, our vineyards aren’t adversely afected: the good vegetative development of the plants shields the grapes from the sun’s harsh rays. The 2019 vintage reflects an exuberant and demanding harvest notable for the excellent health of the grapes and the quality of the indigenous varieties we grow.

In order to guarantee the maximum expressiveness and quality of the wine, we work with low yields in the vineyard. In the case of the 2019 vintage, the average yield of Recaredo vines was 42.8 hl/ha.

The 2019 vintage reflects an exuberant and demanding harvest notable for the excellent health of the grapes and the quality of the indigenous varieties we grow. As always, Xarel·lo is the standout on our biodynamic estates, displaying remarkable purity and freshness. With the memory of abundant autumn rains, and after an especially cold, dry winter, spring comes and Recaredo’s vineyards gradually awaken and begin to teem with life. The buds break later than usual, but showers in March and April allow the plants to grow with exceptional vigour.

In order to guarantee the maximum expressiveness and quality of the wine, we work with low yields in the vineyard. In the case of 2019 vintage, the average yield of Recaredo vines was 42.8 hl/ha.
