Recaredo, premiat per les criances amb tap de suro a la XXI edició dels Premis Gla d’Or
Recaredo has received a 2010 Golden Acorn award for ‘the quality that results from closing the ageing process for it sparkling wines with cork stoppers’. The award, given by the Association of Cork Companies of Catalonia – AECORK, reflects the fact that Recaredo is one of the few winemakers in Catalonia that still opts to use cork in the process of second fermentation.
In selecting Recaredo, the Association also took into account the environmental advantages of using cork, the fact that the practice ‘connects with the roots and traditions of our culture’, and the winemaker’s role in raising awareness of the properties of cork in forums and through the media.
During the award ceremony dinner, AECORK, chaired by Francesc Jiménez, also recognised the high standard achieved by the director and co-owner of the El Bulli restaurant, Juli Soler, and the experience of oenologist Álvaro Palacios, amply demonstrated by the quality of his wines and by his international reputation.
RECAREDO’S COMMITMENTS, CERTIFIED BY BUREAU VERITAS
The Golden Acorn award recognises an approach to winemaking based on tradition and respect for the environment. At Recaredo we’re pioneers in organic and biodynamic viticulture. Our philosophy as winegrowers and producers is grounded in an attitude of respect for biodiversity and the ecosystem. We have our own vineyards located in the Alt Penedès region, which are cultivated without herbicides or pesticides, using only natural, organic fertiliser.
At Recaredo we practise only dry-grown viticulture, and the grapes we use for our vintage brut nature are harvested entirely by hand (and aged for at least 2 years and a half). Because we believe in tradition and because of technical reason, we continue to age our sparkling wines with cork stoppers, and disgorgement is done without freezing the neck of the bottle. Since 2003, the fulfilment of each of our commitments has been supervised by Bureau Veritas, which evaluates and certifies the work done by Recaredo.
