{"id":10932,"date":"2020-11-05T07:31:47","date_gmt":"2020-11-05T06:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.recaredo.com\/vendimia-2020-en-recaredo\/"},"modified":"2025-05-22T15:14:55","modified_gmt":"2025-05-22T13:14:55","slug":"2020-harvest-recaredo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.recaredo.com\/en\/2020-harvest-recaredo\/","title":{"rendered":"2020 Harvest in Recaredo: year of challenges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Record-breaking year for rainfall.<\/strong> The Pened\u00e8s county recorded rainfall of over 800 l\/m2 in the 2019\/20 wine year, well above the historical average of around 520 l\/m2.<\/p>\n<p>Abundant winter rains provide good water reserves for the vines, but frequent storms up to the beginning of summer lead to a serious outbreak of downy mildew, creating a situation never seen before in the Pened\u00e8s region and reminding us that <strong>nature \u2013 living, vibrant and authentic \u2013<\/strong> always has new lessons to teach us.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5888\" src=\"https:\/\/www.recaredo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/VEREMA-2020-A-RECAREDO-PLUJA-1.jpg\" alt=\"Verema 2020 Recaredo\" width=\"575\" height=\"319\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>A team effort.<\/strong> We haven\u2019t been able to stop working the vineyard for a single day: first, pruning in the winter and carrying out green pruning in the spring, and then managing the vegetation cover and applying environmentally friendly and biodynamic treatments. Lockdowns mean nothing to the grapevines, and the vineyard team \u2013 along with their co-workers in the winery and cava, whose work has been interrupted to an even greater extent \u2013 has been working hard to keep the estate completely in balance.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5914 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.recaredo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/CAIXA-DE-RA\u00cfM-RECAREDO-e1604566430890.jpg\" alt=\"Verema a m\u00e0 RECAREDO\" width=\"575\" height=\"212\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Alliances. <\/strong>In line with our commitment to making wines that respect the ecosystem, we continue to carry out actions aimed at <strong>preserving bats<\/strong> in the <strong>vineyard as natural insectivores<\/strong>, as well as population studies of butterflies to determine the impact of climate change on certain species. These biodiversity programmes are part of our collaboration with the <strong>Granollers Natural Science Museum<\/strong>, a joint project launched in 2013 that grew out of Recaredo\u2019s determination to maintain and improve the quality of natural environments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Night harvest.<\/strong> Part of the harvest was done at night to pick the grapes in optimal thermal conditions, obtain must that\u2019s as expressive as possible, and reduce our harvest crew\u2019s exposure to high daytime temperatures.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5898 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.recaredo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/VEREMA-NOCTURNA-A-RECAREDO.jpg\" alt=\"VEREMA NOCTURNA A RECAREDO\" width=\"575\" height=\"301\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Great Xarel\u00b7lo.<\/strong> Xarel\u00b7lo, which represents 60% of our vineyard area, proves more resistant to the mildew attack than varieties such as Macabeu
