‘Le Monde’ praises Recaredo’s commitment
In an article on sparkling wines published in the French newspaper Le Monde, Recaredo’s Turó d’en Mota is described as representing “the best of cava”: a single vineyard planted in 1940, a single variety (Xarel·lo), and a clear intention to make a terroir sparkling wine that is capable of representing a small part of the landscape of Alt Penedès. The report, signed by correspondent Sandrine Morel, also highlights the important role small growers in Penedès play in raising awareness of the prestige and quality of cava in international markets.
Under the title Le domaine Recaredo refait pétiller le cava, the Le Monde article emphasises how the Recaredo family has sought to develop a distinctive identity as makers of brut nature sparkling wines based on the cultivation of 50 hectares of family-owned vineyards that have been worked in accordance with biodynamic principles for the last decade. The French newspaper quotes Recaredo’s director Ton Mata, who stresses that “it’s important not to ask the land to produce more than it can.”
Le Monde praises the winemaker for a number of distinguishing features that lend Recaredo its own unique personality: the distinctive character of the Xarel·lo variety, which represents 50% of Recaredo’s crop, the decision to stop using the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir varieties from 2014 in order to give more prominence to Mediterranean grape varieties, the use of natural cork stoppers during ageing for all of its production, and the practice of manual disgorgement at the naturally cool temperature of the cellars.
