Turó d’en Mota, best rated by Proensa Magazine 2018
Recaredo’s Turó d’en Mota 2005 is given the highest rating in sparkling wines of the Guía Proensa 2018. With a score of 96 points, Turó d’en Mota 2005 is the most highly acclaimed sparkling wine in this year’s edition of the guide, which includes ratings for a total of 617 wines made by 245 wineries.
The author of the guide, Andrés Proensa, recognized as one of the most eminent figures on the Spanish wine scene, emphasizes the “freshness”, “complexity” and “structure” of Turó d’en Mota 2005—attributes that define the distinctive personality of a historic vintage.
Turó d’en Mota 2005 is made using grapes from a single Xarel·lo vineyard planted in 1940, and a total of 3984 bottles were produced. Planted around a small hill, the vineyard is an exceptional site that receives fewer hours of sunlight a year than Recaredo’s other vineyards because of its orientation to the north and north-east. The soils, which are extremely calcareous and have a silt-loam texture, lend the wine character and distinction.
Nineteen vintages of Turó d’en Mota have been produced so far, but only seven have been released onto the market. The other 12 are still ageing in our cellars, where they will remain until they’re ready to be enjoyed at their best.
