Recaredo Intens Rosat, First Biodynamic Cava Ever
Recaredo’s Intens Rosat is the first biodynamic cava ever to receive the Demeter seal of approval. Practising biodynamic viticulture and the presentation of the first biodynamic cava are not ends in themselves, but rather a reflection of our commitment to build an honest, transparent relationship with nature in order to achieve wines of the utmost quality, with excellent structure and aging potential – in short, wines that serve as ambassadors for the land where they originate.
Recaredo started practising biodynamic agriculture in 2006. Four years later, Recaredo’s family certified 50 hectares of own vineyards located in the county of the Alt Penedès. Biodynamic agriculture goes a step beyond organic. It means working the vineyards in a way that respects the land, without using herbicides, pesticides or fungicides.
Medicinal plants in the vineyard
In line with our unique commitment to work in a way that respects the land so we can harvest fruit that is natural and expressive we prepare infusions of nettle and of camomile, as well as decoctions of horsetail and apply these to the vines. The use of medicinal plants (phytotherapy) is essential to control the presence of fungus in the vineyard and strengthen the vine’s defences.
Vegetation cover and biodiversity
In our vineyards we let plant cover grow spontaneously between the vines. This cover plays a crucial role, loosening the soil, regulating water retention and drainage (essential in the dry farming system we practise), and helping to foster biodiversity and to maintain a balance in the vineyard ecosystem.
