As we approach Recaredo’s centenary, we are pleased to share with you the chronicle of the 2022/23 wine year, one of the most unusual in our history.

In spite of the intense negotiations between the wine growers AVEC and the D.O. Cava, it has been impossible to reach a satisfactory solution between the two parties.

From the 2008 vintage on, we changed the name of our historic “Recaredo Brut de Brut” sparkling wine to “Recaredo Serral del Vell” to reflect our commitment to the great terroirs of the Alt Penedès wine region.

Recaredo endorses the Club Matador Manifesto, which champions the quality, authenticity and distinctiveness of wines made with grapes from exceptional vineyards. The Manifestocalls on protected designation of origin (PDO) regulatory boards to address the needs of estate wines and sparkling wines and work to enhance their prestige.

Readers of the Guía de Vinos Gourmets have voted the terroir cava “Recaredo Brut de Brut 2006. Finca Serral del Vell” as the best sparkling wine of the year. It is asober, elegant terroir cava made with a blend of Xarel·lo and Macabeu.

The TV programme Catalunya Experience paid a visit to one of Recaredo’s most singular vineyards with two Japanese sommeliers to highlight the authentic character of terroir sparkling wines.

Starting with the 2006 vintage, Recaredo Brut de Brut has been made exclusively with Xarel·lo and Macabeu varieties from the Serral del Vell Estate.

Recaredo’s Turó d’en Mota is described by ‘Le Monde’ as representing “the best of cava”: a single vineyard planted in 1940, a single variety (Xarel·lo), and a clear intention to make a terroir sparkling wine that is capable of representing a small part of the landscape of Alt Penedès.

After nine years of practising biodynamic farming in Recaredo’s vineyards, we can see that our sparkling wines have an even more vital, expressive character, with a multitude of nuances and superb ageing potential.

Recaredo has been selected as a new member of Renaissance des Appellations, the most prestigious international association of biodynamic winegrowers. The mission of the members is to ‘ensure the full expression of terroir’ and draw attention to the personality of wines distinguished by their originality and authenticity.

Recaredo’s Intens Rosat is the first biodynamic cava ever to receive the Demeter seal of approval. Recaredo started practising biodynamic agriculture in 2006. Four years later, 50 hectares of own vineyards located in Alt Penedès were certified.

Recaredo celebrated the 50th anniversary of its emblematic “Reserva Particular” cava accompanied by Sommelier Josep Roca and pianist Omar Sosa. Recaredo offered an exclusive tasting of six vintages of Recaredo Reserva Particular, drawn from the family wine collection (2001, 1999, 1996, 1993, 1991 and 1984).
